JOB - Mechanical Design Engineer
LOCATION - Northampton
TERM - Permanent
SALARY - £35,000 to £45,000 per annum (plus benefits)

Premier Engineering is collaborating with an industry-leading company based in Northampton. They are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team and work on a range of innovative projects.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design, with a strong focus on sheet metal design.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software, particularly SolidWorks.
  • Expertise in designing sheet metal components, including knowledge of fabrication and manufacturing processes.
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering (BEng, MEng, HND, HNC, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of materials, tolerances, and engineering principles.
  • Experience creating detailed engineering drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within a team.

The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:

  • Designing and developing mechanical systems and sheet metal components for various engineering projects.
  • Using SolidWorks to create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings.
  • Generating accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for manufacturing.
  • Collaborating with production teams to ensure designs meet manufacturing and quality standards.
  • Conducting design reviews and implementing improvements based on feedback and testing results.
  • Ensuring designs comply with relevant industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering on time and within budget.
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance designs for performance and cost efficiency.
