The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Accountant to support our commercial and project teams. This pivotal role ensures financial clarity and operational efficiency across all stages of project delivery.

The ideal candidate will have strong bookkeeping and forecasting skills, with hands-on experience using Xero and Replicon. You’ll work closely with the Head of Commercial to enhance financial systems, monitor project profitability, and implement scalable processes that support our growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate financial records across multiple projects (purchase orders, timesheets, invoicing)
• Ensure timely and accurate client invoicing aligned with contract terms and milestones
• Manage payments to suppliers and subcontractors, maintaining strong relationships
• Use Xero for accounting operations, bank reconciliations, and reporting
• Track time and costs using Replicon to ensure up-to-date project spend
• Support budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and cost control
• Collaborate with project managers and quantity surveyors on financial health
• Assist with month-end and year-end accounts, including audit documentation
• Contribute to process improvements across financial operations
• Provide ad hoc analysis and reports to support commercial decisions

Skills and Experience

Essential:

• Proven experience in project accounting and forecasting
• Strong analytical skills for cost monitoring and financial reporting
• Proficiency in Xero and familiarity with Replicon
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
• High attention to detail and ability to interpret complex financial data

Desirable:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Professional qualifications (ACCA, CIMA, ACA)
• Experience in construction, engineering, or infrastructure sectors
• Understanding of UK financial regulations and compliance standards

Senior Bridges Engineer - York

Essential:

• Proactive and Client focused Engineer

• An engineering degree and be chartered or sitting review within 12 months (ICE/IstructE)
• A minimum of 6 years’ relevant experience in a design environment.
• Experience of some of the following structures - bridges, tunnels, stations & buildings and design using various materials, eg - concrete, steel, timber, masonry
• Experience in undertaking the role of
  ~ refurbishment/renewals in a range of structural types and materials
• Excellent leadership and communication skills
• Project management experience including project scoping, coordinating design activities, contractual and financial management
• Experience of management of teams of up to 2-4 people
• Experience of working on multiple concurrent and multi-discipline commissions
• Experience in representing the company to clients and working with a range of project stakeholders
• An innovative outlook and be looking to use and further develop technical and business skills to match the growing needs of the business

 Responsibilities will include:

• Development of conceptual and detailed designs in accordance with project requirements
• Checking of design calculations and drawings completed by other engineers
• Structural calculations and­ analysis using appropriate software packages
• Technical leadership/ input/ review role for design, assessment and other technical aspects.
• Assisting in preparation of fee proposals
• Managing and building relationships with clients, consultants and contractors
• Attending meetings representing MHB and the design team
• On site visits/ structural inspections/ investigations.
• Providing technical support to less experienced staff
• Project management of small and medium sized projects

The successful candidate will report to York Office Lead and work closely with discipline heads based in the other MHB offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Croydon.
