Location: Leicester
Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 + Benefits
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

 

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Quality Engineer to join a leading manufacturing business in Leicester. This is an excellent opportunity for a quality professional with experience in nuclear, defence, or military manufacturing to join a highly regulated environment where quality, compliance, and traceability are critical.

Working closely with production, engineering and suppliers, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving quality systems, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring products meet customer and regulatory requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain the Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001 and applicable industry standards.
  • Lead investigations into non-conformances and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Conduct root cause analysis using methodologies such as 8D, 5 Whys and Ishikawa.
  • Perform internal audits and support customer and third-party audits.
  • Manage supplier quality issues and support supplier development activities.
  • Ensure full product traceability and compliance with customer specifications.
  • Work closely with engineering and production teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Produce and maintain quality documentation, including inspection plans and quality records.
  • Monitor quality performance metrics and recommend process improvements.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, regulatory and customer requirements.

 

Skills and Experience Required

 

Essential

  • Previous experience as a Quality Engineer within a nuclear, defence or military manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems and regulated manufacturing processes.
  • Experience using quality tools including FMEA, PPAP, SPC, CAPA and structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Experience supporting internal and external audits.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Eligible to obtain UK security clearance if required.

 

Education

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, supported by substantial experience within mechanical engineering, manufacturing, fabrication or heavy engineering environments.

 

Desirable

  • Knowledge of AS9100, ISO 19443 or other industry-specific standards.
  • Lead Auditor qualification.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Familiarity with machining, fabrication, welding and special process controls.
